History

Already 10 times…

The Zinneke Parade was first created in the framework of Brussels 2000, European Capital of Culture.
It was born from a desire to organise a big party in the city that would build bridges between the city centre and Brussels’ 18 districts.
All socio-cultural organisations were mobilized to collaborate.

The first Parade was emotionally charged and full of joy, creating many great memories.
The idea was to showcase the multicultural richness of Brussels neighbourhoods
and restore connection between its fragmented districts.
The Parade is one of the only Brussels 2000 events that became a perennial adventure!

  • In 2002, the Parade crossed the capital from South to North, on the theme of “Zinnergy”.
  • In 2004, it followed the main street from De Brouckère to Anneessens, based on the theme “The Body in the City”.
  • In 2006, the Parade took a circular route without borders, coming in close contact with the public
and based on the theme “Future to Come”.
  • In 2008 the Parade maintained its circular form and flooded the centre under the theme of “Water”.
  • In 2010 the Parade started at 4 different places under the theme “A table/Aan tafel”.
  • The seventh edition of the Zinneke Parade held in 2012 had “Disorder” as theme.
  • The theme for 2014 was “Tempation”.
  • The theme for 2016 was “Fragil”.
  • The theme for 2018 was “ILLEGAL”.
