Zinneke In with Out (2-5 December) EN

As we approach Zinneke’s 25th anniversary, we warmly invite you to join us for a few days of thoughtful discussions on some themes that are close to our hearts, from 2 to 6 December 2024.

Over the past 25 years, Zinneke has established its place in the socio-cultural and artistic landscape of Brussels. The Parade has grown into an unmissable event, and the MaZui production centre is becoming an increasingly prominent meeting and creation space in the Northern Quarter.

For Zinneke, this is the ideal moment to share and discuss some issues with the people who surround us: artists, partners, and friends. Through roundtable discussions, debates, and expert interventions, we will delve deeper into various themes such as the connection between Zinneke and MaZui, the role of public space in artistic creations, collaboration with our partners, the accessibility of the project, the parade as a contemporary art form, the dynamics between art and folklore, and the social role of Zinneke.

Detailed Programme:

Monday 2/12 14h – 17h: Zinneke and MaZui walking conversations

followed by a snack and drink

What: During an interactive tour where we engage in conversation and get inspired by the spaces of MaZui, we will determine together the future role of the building.

  • What makes MaZui so special?
  • How can we strengthen the unique aspects of MaZui in line with Zinneke’s core values and objectives?
  • What role does MaZui play in artistic co-creation and bringing people together?
  • How do we ensure that what happens outside is also felt inside, and vice versa?
  • What role does MaZui play in the neighbourhood, and how can we strengthen the bond with local residents?

For whom: Everyone who wants to think about the role of MaZui in the story of Zinneke, and especially for all actors active in the Northern Quarter.

Monday 2/12 18h-20h: Parade as an artistic format panel discussion

preceded by a snack and drink

Moderation: Audrey Leboutte

What: During this panel discussion, we invite artists Chris Verdonck (A Two Dogs Company), Simona Denicolai (Denicolai & Provoost, Petticoat Government, Salamba drums), Francesca Chiaicchio (ILPALINSESTO), Natacha Belova (Sisypholia), Milan Emmanuel (Detours festival) and others to reflect on possible formats for being present in public space.

  • What are the artistic qualities of a parade?
  • Why is this form interesting for co-creative projects aimed at meeting, collective imagination, and urbanity?
  • What role does public space play in artistic work?
  • What are the experiences with public space as a place for expression, individual or collective, performative or not, walking or standing still, for short or long periods?
  • What other formats are possible and fit within Zinneke’s vision and mission?

For whom: Everyone who wants to think about how Zinneke claims its artistic place in public space.
